Description:
Fairly large, stocky myna with brown, black and white plumage. Brownish myna with yellow orbital skin, white wing patch and white tail-tip. Adult has glossy black on head and breast merging into maroon-brown of rest of body. Juvenile is duller, with brownish-black head and paler brown breast.
Distribution:
Uncommon summer visitor only limited to southern lower areas of Diamer district. Prefers open country, avoiding forest; dry open woodland, grasslands and cultivated areas mainly near villages, towns and cities; up to 1500m.
Behavior:
Forages on refuse dumps; collects discarded household scraps. Most foraging is done on ground, where open-bill probing used extensively; and runs or flies in pursuit of insects. Omnivorous, although insects often predominate in diet. Vertebrate food and carrion taken opportunistically. Plant food incorporates fruits and seeds of both wild and cultivated plants.
